When my little guy, Paul, was just a few months old, he became attached to a random blue blanket that I had received at my baby shower. Little did I know that he would drag that thing around everywhere for the next three years. It’s been to the ocean, the mountains and dragged through the snow. He sleeps with it, chews on it and I have to sneak it away to wash every week. We rarely leave the house without it.
The truth is, though, that at a time when he seems to be a “big boy” in every other way, I’m secretly comforted by the fact that he sucks him thumb and snuggles his lovey when he sleeps. We’re so quick to grow our kids up; pushing potty training and sending them to preschool at two. I know that pretty soon, he’ll put his lovey on a shelf and the last bits of his babyhood will be a distant memory. Luckily, I’ll have these photos to look back on when he’s grown.
